Defense - Civil Defense - Georgia Alert and Responses In Georgia (Publication)

 Series
Identifier: 022-05-042

Scope and Contents

This series contains the newsletter of the Civil Defense Division which has borne at least two titles since its inception in November, 1951 under the direction of Ernest Vandiver. A typical issue might contain articles (1) by the director on some aspect of the national defense program, (2) on local civil defense happenings including meetings and conventions, (3) pointing out the urgency of appropriating more money for civil defense, (4) making recommendations for cooperation among communities and decrying the lack thereof, (5) containing lists of federal appropriations to communities, (6) on service club participation, (7) on the role of women in civil defense, (8) on new defense programs, (9) announcing civil defense legislation nationwide and (10) announcing the availability of civil defense courses. For most of the early years, Georgia Alert was published monthly and each issue bore accurate volume and item numbers. Such is not the case, however, for 1951. By 1972, the publication was a tri-monthly and that same year changed its title to Response in Georgia.
