Public Service Commission - Transportation - Macon and Brunswick Railroad Sale Records
Scope and Contents
This series consists of unbound records pertaining to the sale of the Macon and Brunswick Railroad. The records include reports of special legislative committees assigned to the railroad, a copy of the act authorizing the sale of the road, reports of the board of directors of the road and a report of the receiver of the railroad. The Macon and Brunswick Railroad was placed on sale in 1875 because of bankruptcy and sold in 1880 for the sum of $1,125,000. The sale of the Macon and Brunswick is discussed on pages 19 through 28 of Governor Alfred Colquitt's address to the 86th Session of the 1880 Georgia General Assembly. This address is included in Record Group 37, General Assembly, Sub-Group 1, Records of the House and Senate, Series 2, Senate Journals. Printed copies of this series can be found in the Law Wing of the Department of Archives. One should also see the bound copies of the sale of the railroad located in Series 6, Transportation Division's Railroad Minute Books, Series 8, Transportation Division's Railroad Letterbooks, and Series 14, Transportation Division's Railroad Ledgers and Journals.
