Public Service Commission - Transportation - Railroad, Express Co., and Street Railway Annual Report
Scope and Contents
Included in this series are annual financial statements of railroad companies operating in Georgia. Also included are reports of express companies that originally used the rails for delivery of freight, but there are only a few of these companies. Prior to 1924, annual reports for street railway companies are included. Boxes numbered with the letter A were discovered during the Shelf Inventory Project of 1993. Each report is divided into two parts: (1) data on the entire company operations and (2) data on its operations in Georgia. The data on the entire company operations are the same as reported annually to the U.S. Interstate Commerce Commission. The type of information included varies somewhat from year to year, but in all cases, the amount of detail is quite extensive, giving a most comprehensive view of each railroad's: (1) financial standing (2) its ownership (3) its relationship to subsidiary corporations (4) its operating equipment (5) its revenues and commodities shipped (6) its employees. A typical report is about 150 pages in length.
