Scope and Contents
This series consists of two small bound volumes containing the Western & Atlantic Railroad Commissioners' reports describing in detail and giving full value to all property of the Western & Atlantic Railroad as it was leased out by the State of Georgia over a twenty year period. The inventories, compiled in 1870 and 1890, list all (1) buildings, (2) real estate, (3) stationery, (4) tracks, (5) iron, (6) condition of road bed, (7) bridges, (8) culverts, (9) station houses, (10) telegraphic equipment at all offices, (11) road handcars, (12) tools and materials on line of road and at all maintenance departments, (13) locomotive engines, (14) all types of freight and passenger cars, (15) wood and ties, (16) ballast and (17) furniture. The grand total of the Western & Atlantic in 1890 was placed at $6,364,932.62. A grand total for the 1870 inventory was never established.
