Scope and Contents
This series consists of two volumes recording the amount of freight and passage for the steamships Mary Byrd and Resaca. Volume 1, for the Mary Byrd, has the freight and passage entries beginning about the middle of the book. A general heading contains trip number, debit and credit columns. Under this heading is listed (1) date, (2) transaction, (3) amount and (4) total. Volume 2, for the Resaca, is formatted on two pages. A general heading contains (1) trip number, (2) originating station, (3) destination and (4) date. Next is listed (1) shipper's name, (2) embarkation, (3) consignee, (4) destination, (5) freight marks, (6) description of freight, (7) weight, (8) rate, (9) cost, (10) amount charged and (11) amount paid. Both volumes' entries are arranged numerically by trip number and then chronologically by trip date. Only the Mary Byrd volume has an index. Volume 1 also shares space with Series 5, Bound Transportation Division's Steamship Portage Books, and Series 22, Bound and Unbound Transportation Division's Steamship Cash Books and Statement, both of this sub group.
