This series consists of bound material (bound inside individual folders) documenting the efforts made by utility companies in regard to rate, security and financial hearings before the Georgia Public Service Commission. The records include: (1) company filings (2) testimonies (3) exhibits (4) minimum filing (5) case summaries (6) approval memos (7) transcripts (8) audit reports (9) data requests and responses (10) briefs and proposed orders (11) petitions (12) correspondence (13) newspaper clippings and (14) related documents. The files record the steps taken by the various utility companies, on the one hand, in their efforts to increase their rates, acquire a loan from the REA, readjust their stock, issue bonds or other requests before the Public Service commission. On the other hand, the records contain the material generated by the Utilities Division in its function to provide the Commission with the necessary knowledge it needs to have in implementing, controlling and enforcing compliance with its regulatory policies. The main objective of the Utilities Division is to furnish the Commission with professional and technical services in order that responsibilities to the public as required by law can be met. The earlier cases generally have a white or yellow "Record of Handling" card attached to the front of the case. This card records: (1) file number, (2) docket number, (3) date of assignment (both notice and hearing), (4) appearances, (5) final disposition of the case. Later cases usually have the final disposition contained in the beginning or ending paragraphs in the court record.
