Transportation - Toll Roads Division - State Toll Way Authority Public Hearing Files
Scope and Contents
Included in this series are transcripts of public hearings from the Tollway Section of the Department of Transportation. The purpose of the hearings was to provide communication between the Tollway Section and the public in regards to proposed tollways. The transcript of each hearing has appendices that include maps, drawings, aerial photographs, newspaper clippings, and correspondence. The correspondence consists of letters between the Department of Transportation and the public, and within the department itself, about problems relating to areas selected for toll roads. The series also includes "dispositions of comments" for each hearing that contains a summary of the remarks by each speaker, followed by comments on those remarks by the Toliway Authority. These comments often refute charges made by the speakers. The speakers often represented groups such as environmentalists, landowners concerned about the possible loss and separation of their land, and community civic leaders.
