This series consists of bound volumes containing the: (1) names of persons appointed or issued commissions, (2) official capacity of appointment or commission, and (3) date of appointment by the Governor or commission issued by the Secretary of State. The various officials, either elected by the General Assembly or the general electorate or appointed by the Governor for the different districts of Georgia, hold the following positions (not an inclusive list): (1) Members of Congress, (2) Judges of Superior Court, (3) Solicitor General, (4) Attorney General, (5) Assistant Adjutant General, (6) State Treasurer, (7) Governor, (8) Secretary of State, (9) Members of State Transportation Board, and (10) State Superintendent of Schools. Though the format for the volumes changed considerably through the years, from handwritten to typewritten pages, the informational content has stayed relatively the same. The various volumes, which act as a log book for the commissions, contain copies of the commissions which contain (with a few exceptions): (1) the Governor's name, (2) a greeting, (3) name of person being commissioned or appointed, (4) statement of provision for the position, (5) recognition of election to the position by the General Assembly, the general electorate or appointment by the Governor, (6) conditions and powers of the position, (7) date of election, (8) date of commissioning or appointment, and (9) name of the Secretary of State. As the title of this series implies, the commissions found in these volumes are not found in other series of this sub group. As can be seen from the finding aid, a time gap of nearly 30 years exists between Volumes 1 and 2. Volume 2 pertains only to Members of Congress.
