Scope and Contents
Steadman V. Sanford was a prominent educator, college president and Chancellor of the University System of Georgia from 1932 to 1945. This series contains Chancellor Sanford's speeches and newspaper articles written on a variety of topics. Although a majority of his speeches are related to higher education and the university system, he also addressed numerous civic, church and military groups, such as the Veterans of the Spanish American War, the Baptist Convention and the Kiwanis. This series also includes Chancellor Sanford's personal correspondence, such as letters to university presidents, friends, and also letters of condolence to his wife and the Board of Regents at the time of his death.

The majority of his speeches are unarranged in folders labeled "occasion and city delivered unknown." The remainder of the speeches are arranged in folders alphabetically by the city in which the speech was given. Most of the speeches were given between 1934 and 1942 but earlier and later speeches are included. The personal correspondence is unarranged and located at the end of the series.
