Education - Georgia Library Commission - Bulletins, Newsletters and Field Letters
Scope and Contents
This series contains a portion of the newsletters mimeographed by the office of the secretary of the Georgia Library Commission. The chief audience of these serial publications consisted of the various local librarians in the state. Beginning as a series of circular letters addressed to these ladies, the format gradually changed to that of a newsletter similar to others distributed by other state agencies. Amongst the subjects addressed in these newsletters might be: (1) outstanding dates to be observed by public libraries (2) announcements of book lists distributed by the Atlanta office of those books thought suitable for purchase by public libraries (3) examples of cooperative services provided by libraries and civic and patriotic societies (4) helpful hints on clipping services for newspapers (5) compliments on newspaper publicity garnered by local libraries (6) requests for personal visits from the secretary (7) information on travel and hotel rates for prospective attendees of the American Library Association conventions (8) announcements of new government pamphlets (9) announcements of special historical observations or other special events of interest (10) announcements of money‑making schemes for libraries (11) tallies on the response to requests for the submission of annual reports on circulation.
