Scope and Contents
Please note, Georgia Confederate Pension Applications and Supplements may be found on the Georgia Archives website, www.georgiaarchives.org, under the "Virtual Vault" tab.
These excerpts were prepared by the Pension Office in cooperation with the Works Projects Administration (WPA) in the 1930's. One page is devoted to each soldier pensioner (none are included for widows). A typical excerpt gives: (1) name of pensioner; (2) year and county of initial application; (3) when and where born; (4) when and where enlisted; (5) rank; (6) company and regiment; (7) names of captain and colonel commanding; (8) pertinent facts about his service, such as injuries, date of capture, date of discharge, and names of witnesses to the initial application.

Duplicate copies of the excerpts are filed in three arrangements: (1) by military unit designation and alphabetically by name of pensioner within each (2) alphabetically by name of pensioner, (3) third grouping includes men who served in units from states other than Georgia, arranged by state, and alphabetically by name of pensioner within each.
