Scope and Contents

The Act of February 21, 1951 created the Commission on Alcoholism and authorized the Governor to appoint members to the Commission. The act recognized alcoholism as an illness and authorized publications to disseminate information concerning alcoholism. The Act of March 7, 1960 abolished the Commission and transferred its powers and duties to the State Department of Public Health. The Act of March 30, 1971 authorized the Department to receive drug abuse persons, as well as alcoholics, into its evaluating and treatment facilities. The Reorganization Act of April 6, 1972 transferred the department's powers and duties to the Department of Human Resources.
