Veterans' Services - Public Information Section - News Releases
Scope and Contents
The Department of Veterans Service maintains a very active public relations program, an important part of which is the preparation of official news releases for distribution to the news media throughout the State. These news releases are usually one mimeographed page in length and most are dated and marked for immediate release. A dateline is indicated with the date left blank, apparently so the individual newspapers might amend it to fit their schedules. A title is also included for each news story. Indeed, all the news media staff need do is copy these releases verbatim. The subject matter deals primarily with the various programs administered by the Department for veterans and their families. Examples would include articles on administrative rule changes, benefit law amendments, status reports on G.I. bills, and progress reports on veterans nursing home projects and other facilities designed for veterans in Georgia.
