Scope and Contents

This series consists of original and photocopied documents concerning the Primary, General and Special Election returns from Municipal Election Officials. Other related election correspondence pertaining to municipalities is also included. The documents consist of: (1) election calendars: (2) election notices sent by city officials; (3) related election correspondence concerning cities; (4) consolidated return sheets; (5) precinct return sheets (regular and absentee); (6) cover letter from city officials, and (7) letter of acknowledgement from Secretary of State to local officials. Title 21, chapters 2, 3 and 4 of the Georgia Code stipulates that the Election Division of the Secretary of State shall: (1) supply all official election forms; (2) qualify candidates; (3) certify ballots and returns; (4) determine sufficiency of petitions; (5) train election officials; (6) publish election information and codes; (7) receive information for filing as well as required filings, and (8) perform administrative duties for the State Election Board.
