Secretary of State - Executive Center - Executive Center Inventory
Scope and Contents
This series contains: (1) correspondence, (2) a detailed inventory of governor's mansion furnishings, (3) 18 albums of color photographs, (4) a later brief inventory, and (5) two brochures. The photographs which form the bulk of this series actually constitute only a portion of the complete set prepared for the Fine Arts Committee (see RGSGSERIES 1 - 16 - 118, Fine Arts Committee Subject Files). These files were apparently sent to the Secretary of State in his capacity first as Keeper of Buildings and Grounds and later as a member of the Fine Arts Committee. Of particular interest to the researcher is the small amount of correspondence which documents the Secretary of State's role in the new Executive Center project and the detailed inventory of furnishings. It is also of interest to note that inventories are taken and forwarded to the State Auditor and others after the departure of every governor and his family. The correspondence and inventories are filed first, followed by the photograph albums. As is the case with the complete set of photographs to be found in the series cited above, the photograph albums in this series are arranged numerically by arbitrarily assigned room numbers. Since the numbering system is not completely clear and since the numbers are not consecutive, it is difficult to ascertain whether a complete set is present. Adding to the confusion is the fact that hallways, ground floor rooms and other furnished spaces are not numbered at all. These unnumbered albums are filed after the numbered sequence followed by albums containing general views of rooms (described as superfluous for inventory purposes in a note in the printed inventory) and photographs of specific items of china, silver, and glass.
