Legislature - House and Senate - Speaker of the House's Correspondence
Scope and Contents
This series consists of correspondence and other records which vividly document the manner in which the Speaker of the House of Representatives and his staff work with other members of the General Assembly, other government officials and citizens of the State in preparing legislation and offering same to the House for its deliberation. Much of the Speaker's correspondence with other House members is of an informal and miscellaneous nature dealing with committee assignments, committee inspection tours, etc. Much of the remainder is of a routine nature, but since the Speaker's Office is of such importance in State government, the correspondence included deals with some of the more important events which involved the General Assembly and other State agencies. A large percentage of this correspondence comes from private citizens, including some of the more influential, and concerns important and sometimes emotional events which involve many of the State's citizens.
