Scope and Contents
The minutes contain detailed discussions of the meetings of the Election Laws committee, including such topics as voter qualification, absentee ballots, holding of elections, duties of clerks, voter lists and other points involving registration and voting procedures. The minutes not only are detailed reports of the points in question, but give the reasoning of the members in determining their decisions. Transcripts of the open hearing held May 23, 1957 is given and a tape recording of the August 1,1957 session is also included in this series. Among the interest groups who offered suggestions at the open meetings are the following: Late Primary Party--Telfair County,Metropolitan Voting Council (Atlanta); League of Women Voters; Registrar--Thomaston, Georgia; National Policy Committee for America; Fulton County Democratic Executive Committee; Miller County Democratic Executive Committee; Registrar DeKalb County; and Representatives Political Science Dept. University of Georgia: (Dr. Albert Saye) and Mrs. Olive H. Padgett.
