Legislature - Commissions and Committees - House Intra-Governmental Coordination Committee
Scope and Contents
These records document the investigation of the impact of two legislative events in Georgia. The first is the recognition by the State of Georgia in 1993 of three American tribes and second, the introduction of SB 123 in the 1995-1996 session creating an Indian Housing Authority. The objectives of the Committee were to compile and study background information pertaining to various issues affecting American Indians mostly derived from state and federal law and to articulate a policy position on state recognition and the scope of Indian Housing Authorities. Documents include publications concerning American Indians and various issues, copies of federal and state rules and regulations and statues, notes and transcriptions of interviews with concerned parties and others with knowledge of American Indian affairs, testimony presented at public hearings and the draft final reports and recommendations.
