This series consists of material relating to the meetings of the State Properties Commission. These records document the meetings held by the Commission in order to fulfill its responsibility for the acquisition and disposition of certain categories of state property: the Western and Atlantic Railroad and all associated property, including that in Tennessee; the property in Atlanta on which the Governor's Mansion once stood; any state-owned real property which the General Assembly has transferred to the Commission without instructions for disposition; and any state-owned real property which the Governor has placed in its custody through executive order. Included in the materials are accounts (summaries, transcripts, and audio tapes) of the proceedings, annoucements of meetings, lists of members, agenda, resolutions which the Comnission introduced to the General Assembly, supporting documents (correspondence, reports, advertisements for bidding, memoranda, photographs, blueprints, etc.) discussed at the meetings, and other related papers. Some of the topics considered at Commission meetings involve: the lease of the Western and Atlantic Railroad, the lease of the Mansion site property, the lease of air rights, the transfer of land to state agencies, etc. As an ex-officio member of the Commission, Secretary of State Ben W. Fortson, Jr., collected these records and served as their custodian.
