Scope and Contents
This series consists of documents relating to the State Properties Commission's responsibility for the disposition of the Western and Atlantic Railroad and all associated property, including that in Tennessee. The Commission engages in the following activities in fulfillment of its mission: leasing property by receiving bids and by submitting proposals to the General Assembly for approval and managing property by inspecting it, insuring it against loss, and paying any taxes legally levied by Tennessee. The types of records included are: Documentation of property transactions, especially material regarding 1 eases, correspondence with public officials and private citizens concerning the use of the railroad and its property rights, reports recommending utilization of the railroad and associated property, and other records concerning the commission's responsibility for the rail road. Many of the documents pertain to the Louisville and Nashville Railroad's lease of the Western and Atlantic.
