This series contains records pertaining to the building and maintenance of roads and bridges of the Inferior Court of Walton County. Today these functions are handled by the County Commissioner's Office. These papers are generally -- ad hoc committee records that the Inferior Court made in dealing with the problems of public road and bridge building. Included are (1) road petitions, (2) road orders, (3) road reports, (4) bridge petitions, (5) bridge reports, (6) road bond funds and (7) resolutions for road and bridge loans. The ad hoc committee would appoint a three man road commission that would view and mark out a road petitioned to the court by the general public. After reporting back to the court with their findings the court would then decide on the building of a public road or bridge or the conversion of a private road into a road for public use.
