Prisons - State Prison Commission - Convicts In Prison Camp Hospitals Weekly Registers
Scope and Contents
These registers contain a weekly record of all persons in the camp hospitals, giving the: (1) names of patients remaining from the previous week and new admissions; (2) their illness; (3) age; (4) sex; (5) race; (6) the date returned to duty; (7) the number remaining in the hospital, and (8) the total number of convicts in the camp. Only the name of the convict, the illness and the number of convicts in each camp, however, are consistently indicated. The name of the camp physician is given for each camp. Comments about transfers of convicts from one camp to another and changes in the location of camps are often included. The information was apparently recorded into these books by the staff of the Principal Keeper's office and later by the Prison Commission staff from weekly reports sent in by officials of the individual camps. Each volume contains the records of several camps.
