This series contains correspondence, reports, plans, publications, committee minutes and other records documenting all areas of interest and responsibility of the Assistant General Manager for Transit Operations of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. This officer is responsible for the management and operation of the bus and rail systems of the authority, not only providing regular service, but also charter and sightseeing service, services for the elderly and handicapped and tripper service, principally to schools. The Assistant General Manager for Transit Operations is, in addition, specifically responsible for construction of bus facilities, capital equipment requirements, preparation and administration of federal grants for the Department of Transit Operations. Furthermore, the Assistant General Manager serves on the American Public Transportation Association Operations Committee the Atlanta Regional Council Transit Summaries Meeting Task Force whose duties are to monitor and assure implementation of projects set forth in the Transit Summaries Meeting plan for the use of Section V monies allocated by the Urban Mass Transit Administration.
