This series contains public hearing files of the Real Estate Division, Program Coordinating Section. These files relate to MARTA's public hearings, both community and relocation, with properfy owners and tenants who were affected by the construction of the transit system. Included in these f i l e s are (1) dates, times and locations of hearings, (2) analysis of public hearing attendances, (3) break down of parcel numbers, street addresses, and owner and/or tenant names, (4) form letter sent t o owner and/or tenant, (5) summaries of people involved and to be relocated, (6) relocation hearing notes, (7) maps of areas affected and (8) correspondence. The Division is responsible for acquiring rights of way needed for the development of the transit system. This process includes property appraisal, negotiation, acquisition, and clearance functions. It is also responsible for relocating displaced families and businesses, operating a salvage yard, managing rental property and transit station concessions. In addition, the Division is responsible for disposal of excess real property rights. These records give an overall view of MARTA's public relations program in dealing with the disruption of people's lives through the relocation of their homes. the files document the impact made in the community by MARTA's progress.
