Scope and Contents
Mrs. Mary Givens Bryan, Director of the Department of Archives and History, served on the Hall of Fame Committee and her office provided the administrative and clerical work required by the Committee. The Georgia Hall of Fame (located in the rotunda of the Capitol) was established by an Act of the Legislature, approved Feb. 7. 1955. sponsored by the Georgia Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy. Elections to the Hall of Fame are sponsored by the various women's patriotic societies of the State. The Committee also sponsored monuments to Georgia Confederate Dead on several National Battlefield Sites, and aided in the selection of Chief Justices whose Busts were placed in the rotunda of the State Judicial Building. Included are correspondence, invitations, guest lists, programs and other papers relating to the Hall of Fame committee. The correspondence includes arrangements with Bryant Baker, the sculptor who carved the marble busts for the Hall of Fame and the Judicial Building; invitations to guests and speakers for the dedications and unveilings, replies to invitations, and similar material. Material on the Chief Justices includes biographies and memorials.
