Scope and Contents
The original joint meeting of these two societies, in which Georgia Archives was intimately associated, was held in Atlanta in October of 1966 at the Marriott Motor Lodge with the staff of the Georgia Dept. of Archives & History (hereafter referred to as G.D.A.H.) acting as hosts. The following material is limited to that conference. The type of material contained in the series,is the following: (1) Lists of staff members of the G.D.A.H., the dates and hours each was scheduled to attend conference and work at Archives; (2) Director's memos to G.D.A.H. staff concerning Conference; (3) List of proposed tours for members of conference; (4) Correspondence between Director of G.D.A.H. and J. Walter Thompson agency concerning Department's publicity kit; (5) Minutes of Local Arrangements Committee meetings; (6) Program for S.A.A. - A.A.S.L.H. meetings; (7) Agenda of program; 8) Brochures; (9) Memoranda; (10) Report of activities of the Atlanta Historical Society for the S.A.A. - A.A.S.L.H. convention; (11) Photographs of convention activities; (12) Correspondence between Director of G.D.A.H. and members of S.A.A. - A.A.S.L.H. concerning plans for meeting; (13) Presentation of Mary Givens Bryan Memorial plaque (includes: correspondence, presentation program, newspaper clippings, dedicatory speech of Mrs. Delores Rentze); (14) Manufacturer's relations (includes: brochures, correspondence between Director of G.D.A.H. and manufacturers of archival materials); (15) Convention guidelines (includes: correspondence concerning guidelines, copy of guidelines and brochures); (16) List of members of each committee, and archival institution each represents; (17) Attendance roster; (18) Brochure of Marriott Motor Lodge and correspondence between officers of Marriott and Director of G.D.A.H.; (19) Promotional material of convention (includes: brochures and correspondence); (20) Correspondence from members of convention expressing their appreciation to staff of G.D.A.H.; (21) Tapes of speeches, panels and conferences. Including: (A) Urban History: "Perils of Writing Urban History" by Louis L. Tucker, New York State Education Dept.; "The Embarrassment of Choices" by Constance McLaughlin Green, Washington, D.C.; "Urban History: Challenge and Opportunity'' by James J. Heslin, New York Historical Society; (B) Salaries of Historical and Archival Institutions, panel with William T. Alderson, A.A.S.L.H., Philip P. Mason, S.A.A., Clifford L. Lord, Hofstra University and James C. Olson, University of Nebraska as panelists; (C) "Accessibility of Archives and Manuscript Collections for Photocopying" with Richard C. Berner, University of Washington Libraries, Walter Rundell, National Historical Publications Committee. William Broadfoot, Duke University Library, Archibald Hanna. Yale University Library as speakers; (D) Mary Givens Bryan Dedication with Ben W. Fortson Jr. and Robert Bahmer as speakers; (E) Presidential address of Delores C. Rentze; (F) After dinner business meeting.
