Public Service Commission - Transportation - Georgia Railroads Before Regulation
Scope and Contents
This series consists of an artificial collection of bound and unbound records accumulated by the Georgia Railroad Commission, the Office of the Governor or an agent of the General Assembly and its investigative committees for their reference or otherwise unidentified. The records include (1) correspondence, (2) accounting forms, (3) reports, (4) petitions, (5) copies of bills for reference and (6) a freight journal. Some of the reports deal with railroads aided by the State especially for the decade of 1870 and before regulation. The Western & Atlantic, the Gulf & Atlantic and the Macon & Brunswick are the primary railroads mentioned. The freight journal is from an unidentified railroad company. A substantial part of this collection consists of testimony and information pertaining to the lease of the Western & Atlantic property.
