This series consists of original and photocopied subject file material created or collected by the Director of the Division of Bus Maintenance of MARTA. Subject file topics include (but are not limited to): Amalgamated Transit Union material, audit reports, analysis of passenger miles, bus maintenance policies and directives, contract proposals, cleaning costs, engine failures, labor relations, painting of buses, professional meetings, safety classes, synthetic engine oils, transit vehicles, vandalism, and Workmen's Compensation. Additionally, there are other divisional policies and procedures, directives, speeches, appointments, studies, reports and general correspondence kept by the Division Director within this series. The functions and responsibilities of the Division of Bus Maintenance are as follows: (1) In the most economical and efficient manner, obtains maximum performance from rolling stock; utilizes maintenance facilities and shop equipment; promotes safety; assists in procurement of new equipment and contracts for services; assists with inventory control; and is involved in all facets of personnel. (2) Organizes and promotes a mechanical training program both in classroom and "hands on". (3) Maintains a high level of cleanliness and maintenance of all buildings and grounds including bus stops, passenger shelters, park and ride lots, central business district signs, operating facilities, rail stations and rights-of-way. (4) Maintains test and performance records for all diesel equipment, automobiles and trucks.
