Franklin County - Superior Court - Slave Importation Register
Scope and Contents
This series consists of a bound volume containing affidavits filed by persons importing slaves into the state of Georgia, particularly Franklin County. Each affidavit names and describes each slave, states that the importer is the rightful owner, and lists the intent of the owner as to the future of the slaves. It stipulates clearly that the slaves are not to be manumitted (released from slavery). The Clerk of the Superior Court adds a certification. The volume's contents are listed chronologically by date. The following listing gives date of certification, slave owner's name, and names of slaves imported. (Son) or (dau.) indicates the slaves' childrens' names.
