Education - Office of Superintendent - Coordinating Committee Minutes
Scope and Contents
This series consists of a collection of minutes created by the Coordinating Committee of the Department of Education. This committee was composed of the directors of the major divisions of the Department, i.e.: Directors of Instruction, Instructional Materials, Administration, Vocational Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Staff Services, Negro Education and Field Services. The purpose of the committee was to co-ordinate activities among the various divisions, recommend policies and inform each division of the work of the others, and to discuss and hopefully solve internal Departmental problems. The committee usually met weekly, but often met only bi-monthly. The information contained in these volumes ranges from the trivial (such as requests that employees refrain from making personal telephone calls) to such items of relative importance as detailed explanations of new programs and policies. For some years a topical index is included that gives the date of the meeting in which various selected topics were discussed. Other years are not indexed. The volumes of minutes often include copies of financial reports, committee recommendations, etc. which were considered by the committee in its deliberations. Often included too are sheets sent around to each member suggesting the agenda for the upcoming meeting.
