This series consists of bound and unbound records including: (1) photographs (2) correspondence (3) achievement certificates (4) newspaper clippings (5) honorary House and Senate resolutions (6) speeches and addresses (7) miscellaneous publications (8) related materials all pertaining to the state service rendered by Dr. Mauney Douglass Collins.

Dr. M.D. Collins, State Superintendent of Schools from 1933 to 1958 and Emeritus from 1958 to 1963, was born in Union County and ordained a Baptist Minister. His many achievements, to name a few, include Life Pastor of Friendship Baptist Church; Life Member of the National Elementary Principals Association; Georgia Education Association, Georgia Congress of Parents and Teachers, American Vocational Association, National Education Association and National Rehabilitation Association; former editor of the Campbell County News and the Fairburn Messenger; state counselor of the Junior Order of American Mechanics of Georgia; President of Georgia Odd Fellows Association and member of the Georgia National Defense Commission.

Before becoming State Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Collins was the Superintendent of Campbell County Schools for 11 years. When Campbell County merged with Fulton County, Dr. Collins became the Supervisor of Fulton County Schools. He died in 1967. The earlier years of newspaper clipping scrapbooks not only document the various aspects and activities of Georgia education, but also contain a wealth of information on Dr. Collins' handling the Office of State School Superintendent. After 1955, however, the scrapbooks contain little if any information concerning Dr. Collins.
