Western and Atlantic Railroad - Affiliated - Road Battalion Commander's Correspondence
Scope and Contents
This series consists of three letters written on the back side of freight report forms contained in RG 18/7/59, VOL1-2898, General Freight Agent, Freight Report Summary Book (1850). The correspondence is of the Commander of the Road Battalion, Major George Hillyer, to General Henry C. Wagner, Georgia Adjutant General. The correspondence principally involves the relationship of the State to the employees of the W&A under Hillyer's command. Hillyer's main concern was the enforcement of the State's rates for conscription, sufficient provisions for the unit and the selection of an additional officer. The letters were written all on the same day.
