This series consists of records documenting a pilot program providing nutrition and parenting education aimed primarily at adolescents and youthful expectant mothers. These papers were created by the Home Economics Education unit of the Division of Vocation Instruction within the Office of Vocational Education. The Division Develops: (1) vocational education programs (2) provides consultative services to local school systems (3) reviews finding requests from local school systems. Nutrition and parenting relates to the instructional area of the Home Economics Education unit. This project received federal monies under the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 and the Vocational Education Act of 1976. It not only provided nutrition and parenting classes to secondary school students, but also provided nutrition classes for elementary school students and individual counseling. The project also promoted the use of services offered by local health departments. The series includes: (1) Correspondence & memoranda between (a) federal & state officials (b) state & local officials (2) Reports (3) Budget requests (4) Local Application for State & Federal Vocational Education Funds (5) Lists of participating teachers (6) Bibliographies. The topics stressed in these documents were funding and training workshops for teachers.
