Scope and Contents
This series consists of the bound copies of outgoing correspondence created by the Master of Transportation. To be found within this correspondence is the: (1) day-to-day activities of the trains, passengers and freight, (2) schedules and crews, (3) specific rate questions, (4) supervision of the General Freight Agent and the General Ticket Agent, (5) establishment of general rates to shippers, (6) interpretation of rates, (7) rate exemption for intra-road traffic, (8) issuance of rules to prevent the overloading of freight cars to prevent damage to the other cars, (9) orders to superintendents of other railroads in other states on ticket selling, and (10) co-ordination of freight schedules when certain locomotives broke down. Also of potential interest to the researcher may be the co-ordination of, and at times, the difficult maintenance of the "Green Line", a fast freight tariff agreement among various southeastern connecting railroads on "through" rates.
