Western and Atlantic Railroad - Master of Transportation - First Entry Agency Cash Books
Scope and Contents
This series consists of bound cash volumes of first entry kept by the Master of Transportation's Office. Varying in format, they each contain the same information. Volume 1, Ringgold Agency, 1852, 1855, records: (1) date, (2) account number, (3) claimant's name, (4) description of the transaction, (5) whether debited or credited, and (6) dollar amount. Volumes 2 and 3, 1858-1861 and 1856-1864 respectively, used the left-hand page to record debits and the right-hand page to record credits. Included thereon is the: (1) date, (2) description of transaction, (3) cash received from or paid to, (4) amount, and (5) total. This series comprises only the first half of Volume 2, however, as Series 63, Bound General Freight Agent's Daily Roster of Skeleton Trains, Sub-group 7 is located in the second half.
