The fiats are authorizations from the attorney general that plats with completed surveys could be granted to the individuals who petitioned for them. Two volumes consist of records pertaining to the administration of decedents' estates. The first volume, 1755-1771, contains appointments of executors to administer an estate and instructions for the inventory and appraisal of that estate. The second volume, 1771-1775, contains records of appointments and instructions by the governor as well as citations for individuals to appear before the governor, such as creditors seeking payment from an estate. One volume consists of records of the governors' appointments of guardians for orphans of deceased individuals. Each record includes the name of the deceased, the name of the deceased children, the name of the appointed guardian, and the date of the appointment.
