This box contains State Ethics Commission meeting minutes. Minutes are filed by date and includes information about what topics and/or persons were discussed on the day and decisions made by the committee. Please note: these files do NOT include the research or investigation hearing files.

This series consists of records relating to the registration of trademarks with the Secretary of State of Georgia. These records are all of expired trademarks. The type of records usually included are: (1) certification of registration, (2) correspondence, (3) registration applications, (4) drawings or samples of trademarks, and (5) notices of expiration.

Collection includes deeds, mortgages, wills (1879 - 1919) newspaper clippings, certificates, correspondence, telegrams, and genealogical notes connected with the Jeptha E. and Mary E. Dye Campbell estate in Elbert County, Georgia, the Elizabeth Campbell Shadburn family (1920s - 1973) in Bartow County, Georgia, and the Andrew M. and Exella E. Bryan Graham family (1892? - 1918) in Gordon County, Georgia.

Letters by Lemuel Sharp, who served in Cobb's Legion, and by Oliver S. Morton, a cousin, to Lemuel's sisters. The Civil War letters cover 1861 - 1862 during the Peninsula Campaign and describe a naval battle between the Merrimac, the Minnesota, and other ships. Also included are Newton and Monroe Counties, Georgia, legal documents relating to the Richards and Browning families, including a slave hire agreement.

Bible records, including names and birthdates of Sharp family slaves. Two slave bills of sale, involving Chany and Sarah. Undated contract with Henry County, Georgia, to build a bridge over the South River near Thomas Sharp's land.

Letters by Henry Clay Lowe, Jacksonport, AR, Mordecai Sheftall (1803-1881), Savannah, Chatham County, Geogia, and Joseph Sheftall, Richmond County, Georgia, and related records follow the growth, marriage, and family of William H. C. Sheftall and Mary Zenobia Lowe of Bibb County, Georgia. Includes an unrelated Chappell College commencement day program, 1891.

In his diary, Perkins writes about agriculture on his farm, livestock, and the weather. The record tells of daily events such as a visit from his daughter, Babe (Augusta P. Lake); loading melons for his son-in-law, Abe Chance; and the worsening illness of his youngest sister, Susan, in Augusta, who died the day after the diary ends.

Collection contains record of property sold by Charles H. Sibley, sheriff of Richmond County, Georgia. The same book (pp. 5 - 167) was used by his wife, Emeline Wheeler Sibley, as a recipe book for foods, medicines, and cleaning preparations.

Record of receipts and disbursements of an unspecified store or firm in Hancock County, Georgia. Much of the accounting appears to have been done by Simeon Rogers. Other entries suggest Arthur L. Simms' connection with the company. Entries record date, name of account, and cost. Receipts are for unspecified merchandise or payment of notes, although a few are for wheels. Disbursements are for trips to buy goods and general merchandise purchased by the store.

Daily record of general merchandise sold (including liquor, tobacco, and candy). The front page bears the names John D. and Cosby D. Dickson, William W. and David A. Simpson, and David Harrell of Appling, Columbia County, Georgia.

This collection includes Meriwether County, Georgia, indentures, most of which were recorded, a sheriff's land deed, and tax receipts; U.S. postal carrier examination results; prommissory notes; a will; and Bible records. Other families represented are Caldwell, Barintine, and Archer.

Letters by Mollie Smith and Flora Allen, sisters-in-law, written from Dawsonville, Dawson County, and Gainesville, Hall County, Georgia; a fragment of a speech by J. V. Smith at Blairsville Academy, Union County, Georgia; an undated list of soldiers and widows from Gilmer County, Georgia; and a roster of Company H, 65th Georgia Regiment Volunteers.

Genealogical notes, indentures, estate records (including Patrick Hurley's), slave bills of sale, some letters, photographs, and maps belonging to the family of Robert Van and Clara Viola Webb Smith of Cork, Butts County, Georgia.

Correspondence with the national group and with Georgia legislators, most by H. H. White, about the Hartwell Dam project.

Scrapbooks, correspondence, minutes, financial records, programs, photographs, and publications relating to this Atlanta women's service group.

An account ledger, kept by unidentified person and store, of general merchandise sold to individuals and Sorrell Springs School in Walton County, Georgia. Entries also record labor and wages of individuals and accounts paid.

Minutebooks, treasurer's books, and scrapbooks for this women's club.

Published architectural plans for factories, warehouses, hotels, and college halls throughout Georgia (including one in South Carolina) that were insured by this firm.

This series consists of Visiting Committee Reports and related correspondence. The visiting committees, consisting of educational specialists from universities, the State Department of Education and local school systems, fulfill one of the chief functions of the Association, the inspection of local schools to make recommendations for improvement to insure that all aspects of the school organization, administration and operation will meet the standards set by the Association.

These files represent the key work of the Association and some (number two, for example) are a natural outgrowth of the work of the visiting committees (Record Group 263, Sub-group 2, Series 2). Please note: not all systems or private schools are represented nor are all forms present for every system or school.

The collection includes a wide range of items connected with the college including a scrapbook covering 1893-1899, school events, numerous catalogs, and academic records from 1913-1921.

The back of the volume contains several pages of Hancock Superior Court Docket entries, April - October, 1846. Includes an insert, "Instructions to Joseph T. Simmons, Dep. Clerk," 1845, which contains also 1845 Superior Court Docket entries.

BASICS, Bar Association Support to Improve Correctional Services, is a program run by the Georgia State Bar to orient felons to employment, offering business counseling to those who choose to become business entrepreneurs upon release. It was developed when the state bar was given a grant by the American Bar Association to do something about prisoner economic problems.

The State Housing Authority (of Georgia) was created in 1937 (approved on March 30) by the Georgia Legislature. Information may be found in the 1937 Georgia Laws page 210.
