The major duty of the County Commission is to give general supervision to the business activities of the county government. The bound volumes comprising this series provide documentation of such activities for the inclusive date span listed. They include the receipts and disbursements the Commission was involved in during this time period. Some of these disbursements were for paying jurors and other jury costs, road and bridge work and for paying salaries of county and city employees.

This series is composed of bound volumes which document the civil complaints filed in the court and the judgments resulting from such complaints. The information presented in each volume includes: (1) date and term of court; (2) names of attorneys; (3) case number; (4) names of parties involved; (5) issue involved, and (6) disposition of case, that is, the date or term of court in which judgment was rendered.

This series consists of a bound ledger containing the accounts of an unidentified owner of a cotton gin and a warehouse. The ledger provides documentation of the names of this person's customers and other information including: (1) date of transaction; (2) number of pounds of cotton involved; (3) number of pounds of cotton line and seed stored or sold and date of transaction, and (4) amount paid for cotton or seed.

These index cards were uncovered during the Shelf Inventory Project of 1992. It is believed that the cards were later typed into more formal listings and placed in the Search Room. No further processing has been done on them.

The miscellaneous papers comprising this series are mostly correspondence, blank forms, billing statements, account statements, etc. These papers were found in the various volumes that comprise this record group.

These unbound papers were found in Series 37 of this Record Group and consist of only a few financial records.

This series is composed of a bound volume which documents bench docket cases appearing before the court for the inclusive date span listed. Information presented in this volume includes: (1) date and term of court; (2) name of defendant; (3) date warrant was returned to sheriff; (4) date of arrest, if any; (5) date committed to prison, chain gang or penitentiary (often not given), and (6) date of execution of bond.

This series consists of a bound volume which documents the fees received by the Clerk for the inclusive date span listed. Information presented in this volume includes: (1) names of plaintiffs and defendants; (2) the charge or type of case (often not given); (3) the date recorded (often not given), and (4) an enumeration of the fees. Often a remark would be written across the face of the entry.

This series is composed of bound volumes that document the criminal complaints filed in the Superior Court for the date span listed. Information presented in these volumes includes: (1) date and term of court; (2) case number; (3) names of defendants; (4) the offense they were charged of committing; (5) the disposition of the case, and (6) names of attorneys.

This series is composed of a bound volume which contains documentation showing the names of the various applicants and recipients of loans from the United States of America for the inclusive date span listed. Information presented in this volume includes: (1) date mortgage was agreed to; (2) name of mortgagor; (3) amount of money involved in loan; (4) a description of the property so mortgaged; (5) name of witness, and (6) the date the agreement was filed with the court.

This series consists of unbound papers found in the bound volumes comprising Series 33 of this record group. These records consist mostly of notes, letters, flyers, and other miscellaneous data.

This series consists of bound volumes of the general indexes of deeds filed in the office of the Clerk of Court and provides documentation for information that includes: (1) names of grantees and grantors; (2) date of signature of deed; (3) date the deed was recorded, and (4) the book and page numbers where deed was recorded.

The bound volumes which comprise this series are indexes to the names of the mortgages and mortgagors recorded in Series 3 and 5 of this Record Group. The material presented includes: (1) the names of grantees and grantors; (2) the type of instrument used, that is, deed, mortgage or other; (3) date of instrument, and (4) date of record and book and page number in which the instrument was recorded.

The bound volumes comprising this series are bank stub books that documents the names of jurors who served on the Grand and Traverse Juries for the date span listed and who received compensation from the Bulloch County Superior Court for such services. Information presented in these volumes includes: (1) the name of juror to whom the check was issued; (2) date of issue; (3) the amount of money involved; (4) the check number, and (5) the date and term of court in which the juror served.

The unbound records comprising this series came from the Jury Script volumes of Series 12 of this record group. The type of records found in this series are lists of Traverse and Grand Jurors and a few checks that were issued through error and were, in effect, cancelled. Some of the lists are identified concerning whether the jurors served on a Traverse or Grand Jury and some are dated.

This series is composed of a bound volume which documents the names of persons posting their land for the inclusive date span listed. Information presented in this volume includes: (1) name of registrant and witnesses; (2) date of registration; (3) description of lands so posted, and (4) the Georgia Militia District number in which the lands were located.

This series is composed of bound volumes which document the names of the persons and businesses paying school taxes for the dates listed. Information presented in these volumes includes: (1) name of taxpayer; (2) amount paid; (3) date of payment, and (4) name of school district in which taxpayer paid tax.

This series contains original unbound deeds from the Superior Court of Burke County.

The collection includes letters by John T. Burns, 1858 - 1863 and records of his wife's family: Jeptha V. Harris correspondence, early legal documents, and letters among Mrs. Burns, her sister, Sallie, and her daughter, Martha, which document the disintegration of the family after the Civil War. Records contain additional Johnstone, Dickson, and Sanders family information, names of slaves in early records, and many graphics.

Record of carriage shop work, believed to be in Hancock County, Georgia, citing date, name of account, work done, and cost. The front of the volume records sundries bought for the shop in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. The back of the volume contains entries for lodging and working and an inventory of stock and unfinished work belonging to Burritt and Turner. Some of the entries suggest that Jacob P. Turner and Mayfield and W. Burritt were major customers instead of proprietors.

This collection includes letters and legal documents from Burke, Pulaski, and Baldwin County, Georgia. In one, Robert, Sr., named five slaves in a deed of gift to Benjamin, 1829. Leroy Burton wrote about travel to Louisiana. Also included is a deed to Lewis Bond for Lee County, Georgia, property.

Twenty audiotapes and typescripts of oral interviews talk about mountain life in general, farm life, schools, religious affairs and other amusements, children, and the Blalock family in particular.
