Land and estate records of Wilkes County, Georgia, including the will of John Owens. There are three letters: one dated 1843 to a Miss Brackett from Washington, Georgia, may be by Sarah Colley; another is from "Hetty" in Hartford, Connecticut, to Sarah Colley Robert, 1848, after her marriage; and the third is from B. F. Robert to his niece, Mary M. Robert, from Camp Jackson where he is stationed near Hampton Roads, Virginia, in late 1861. He gives some details of life in military camp.

This series consists of three volumes of recorded grant fiats. The fiats are authorizations from the attorney general that plats with completed surveys could be granted to the individuals who petitioned for them. Each entry provides the date, name of grantee, number of acres to be granted, location of the plat, number of the fiat, and date of the survey certificate.

One volume consists of records of the governors' appointments of guardians for orphans of deceased individuals. Each record includes the name of the deceased, the name of the deceased children, the name of the appointed guardian, and the date of the appointment. Included with the appointments are instructions from the governor for the care of the minor and the management of the minors' estate. The volume is indexed.

Three volumes contain records of the inventory and appraisement of decedents' estates. Each volume contains itemized lists of property held by an individual at the time of death. The list and the valuation of the property are provided by the administrator of the estate. The third volume, 1777-1778, is indexed.

This series consists of a register of quit rents in three volumes. Recorded by the Auditor General, the register is a record of lands for which the grantees were responsible to pay a quit rent to the colony. Each entry contains the name of the property owner, a description and location of the land, rate of quit rent, date of the original grant, and name of the original grantee. The volumes are indexed.

This series consists of documents recorded within the Colony of Georgia. The records include bonds, bills of sale, deeds, mortgages, deeds of gift, marriage settlements, and powers of attorney. The majority of the records are bonds for settling land. Each instrument names the individuals involved, the terms of the transaction, witnesses, and the date the instrument was written.

This series consists of two volumes of proclamations issued by the governor of the Colony, and later the State, of Georgia. The proclamations recorded pertain to the General Assembly; general elections; collection of taxes; courts of justice; enforcement of quarantines; establishment of new counties; apprehension of criminals; Indian affairs; military affairs; runaway slaves; surveying and distribution of ceded lands; trade and shipping. This series consists of a bound volume which documents the names of the rural property owners of this county. Information presented in this volume includes (1) name of owner, (2) name of former owner, (3) the Georgia Militia District number in which the property is located, (4) the book and page number in which deed is recorded and number of acres in tract and (5) property and photograph numbers.

This series contains the newsletter of the Division of Community Affairs. It apparently has no regular time of publication. It is aimed at local governing officials concerned with developmental activities and those agencies with expertise in such areas.

These publications are aimed primarily at local planning commissions, city managers and others engaged in community planning and development programs, many of which are financed by federal funds. Consequently, most of the titles listed are promotional or procedural in intent. They also often point out what has been accomplished in the field in order to stimulate interest and incentive to do more.

These news clippings give a brief mention of various recreation activities in the state. The information in the clippings is not very detailed. Most of the clippings relate to boating and camping activities.
