An estray is a domestic animal which has strayed away from its owner's custody. When a freeholder takes up any estray domestic animal he is required to file with the court of ordinary an appraisement and description of the animal, and an affidavit that his statements are correct. This series contains the person's name and a description of the animal in question and the date registered.

Homestead laws provided for the exemption of a certain amount of property, both realty and personalty, and of certain tools from levy and sale for debt. The exemptions were obtained in the court of ordinary. The records give information as to the name of the petitioner, the size of his family, size and shape of his real property confirmed by the county surveyor by a plat of survey, and a schedule of personal property desired to be exempted.

This series contains the oaths of retailers of spirituous liquors stating that they will not sell any liquors to slaves or free persons of color without the consent of the owners or employers. After the Civil War the oaths pertain to the prohibition of the sale of liquors to minors both white and Colored (African American, Black).
Franklin County - Probate Court - Treasurer's Fee Book
The Inferior Court was a common law court established in each county by the Georgia Constitution of 1789 which handled petty civil and criminal cases. These books are the County Treasurer's records certifying to the Inferior Court that fees were paid into the county treasury for such things as: 1) licenses for the sale of spirituous liquors; 2) fines for failure to perform repair work on roads; 3) taxes, and 4) retail licenses.
